This was all over the traffic report driving home last night: not everyday there’s a road closure because of a plane on the road...
Now there’s dashcam video and holy heck that was close!
M ercifully nobody was seriously hurt.
So far it sounds like a student pilot was practicing touch and go’s but was a bit late on the go part.
Pretty sure we saw a plane doing the exact same manoeuvre while driving past this airport last month on the way to winter scout camp.
I’m assuming the truck needed a new drivers seat

This is why you should never text and drive: imagine missing that happen right in front of you.

I’m just going to point out here that the plane in question was an SR20.
That is all.

General Aviation is a land of wolves

Yikes. Runway 33 is roughly 4,000 feet, so they had plenty of room. I wonder what happened.

The same plane pitcher Corey Lidle flew into the side of a building in Manhattan several years ago. Notorious for being the choice of the nouveau riche who just learned to fly, but that’s just the stereotype.

I wouldn’t mind one either if I could afford it .

I once had a bird fly into my trucks passenger front door when I was going 100kpm in Canada. I’m glad this guy didn’t have my luck with the plane.

At ~ 2,500# it’s about like a Miata, but the mass is more spread out. Unless the engine hit a car straight on, most vehicles would just shrug it off. As scary as they seem, most planes are like aluminum kites compared to cars.
Amazing everyone was basically ok!

After Roy Halliday crashed a friend and I stumbled upon the wikipedia page for notable aviation fatalities.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatalities_from_aviation_accidents
While theres no shortage of tragedy its also good for a few dark chuckles at the hubris, incompetence and occasional cocaine use found in t he terse incident descriptions: eg
“ CFIT into a volcano”
Although the one to beat is:
“crashed after wing clipped Ozzy Osbourne’s tour bus during ultra-low-level fly-by”

Yeah there’s not much to a light aircraft but you still wouldn’t want to catch a propellor at WOT in the drivers window....

Did you have to duck?

some other vids online indicated they were doing touch and gos, but the “and gos” didn’t entirely pan out...

I saw that. I thought they may have been using a short runway, but they were on 33, which runs from the lower right to the upper left in the map below. The shorter runway is about 2,700 feet which is a little short for touch-and-gos in some airplanes.
When my instructor and I land on a short runway, we taxi back on the taxiway before attempting a take-off. With all that room to do a touch and go on 33 , I’m wondering what went wrong. They may have had engine trouble or didn’t go full throttle soon enough or may have had to dodge birds. I’m looking forward to the rest of the story.

That’s an expensive plane to wreck.

It sure isn’t the cheapest thing to train in.
